Venturing into new regions

Growing up fishing and spending time out on the water with her family, Brittany Pearson, Logistics Specialist at Troutlodge never imagined a career in aquaculture but naturally, it’s been a great fit. Graduating with a degree in biology, Brittany learned of Troutlodge and originally began her position working in R&D helping take care of the fish and assisting with the breeding program.

As we celebrate the 75th anniversary of Troutlodge and all its achievements it’s important to remember how Troutlodge came to be. With unique family ties to Troutlodge founder Ed McCleary, Brittany mentions she had the pleasure of meeting him a couple times and recounts that “Ed McCleary was a world traveler. He really enjoyed seeing different places across the globe. I imagine he saw a need that was not being met by the market and wanted to create a solution.” Either by securing food supply in general or trout specifically, he wanted to fill the void and Troutlodge was born in 1945.

Troutlodge has always had a unique feel. Brittany says “It’s like being part of a huge company, doing big things, yet still feeling small, as if we are all family. We are all so close!” With Troutlodge, it’s rewarding knowing the difference we are making by providing trout eggs, that then turn into food so we can feed the world.

Brittany currently works in the Sales and Logistics Department where she has seen major growth and developments in specific areas. “Troutlodge has expanded into new regions that were never ventured into before. Now with representatives all over the world, we can help service our customers anywhere Troutlodge products are needed.”

Troutlodge has also made other advancements through using increased technology in programs and daily tasks to ensure continual improvement for the future. Recently, Troutlodge has launched a new project where tag sensors are added in the shipping boxes that track the products temperature for the entire trip. Once the customer scans the tag on arrival, we review the products entire trip, ensuring the quality of the product shipped.

The results of this project have all been positive with temperatures showing exactly where they should be. “Our clients really appreciate seeing this data, knowing they are receiving high quality products that have been appropriately shipped and delivered at the most optimal temperatures for the highest health of the fish.”

Using technology to our advantage, but also to benefit our clients as we look to find more innovative ways to share information and provide the data we need to continuously improve.

The trout eggs of Troutlodge have been in China more than 20 years, Troutlodge has become the most reliable brand in trout farming industry in China.
